Just heard a great talk from Leadership Management Australia at this year’s AHRI Conference. The presentation topic was a study about First Time Leaders and the leadership support (or lack of it) they receive from their company, across 160 interviewees across Australia’s top 500 organisations.
Here are some quick stats:
- 60% of first time leaders don’t get the support they require in their new leadership role
- Only ~40% of the support they received was suitable
- 80% of respondents felt if they got suitable support, it would significantly help them perform better in their role.
Food for thought … Companies really need to invest more in their first time leaders – to improve short term and long term performance!
